The Zawose Queens

We head for Dodoma, the arid, hilly region of central Tanzania famous for the wild polyphonic songs of the Gogo people. It's in this region that artists Penda and Leah Zawose, inspired by the musical heritage of Dr Hukwe Zawose (Pendo's father and Leah's grandfather), perform music that combines vocal polyrhythms with traditional percussion.
